Welcome to ST Nationals!
When you first enter the dragstrip, you will be assigned a dragster. This
dragster has very poor performance, but it can still beat at least one other
competitor to the finish line. Your job is to be able to beat everybody
to the finish line and come in first on the scoreboard.
The first thing you see when you arrive at the dragstrip is your status.
Here you see your name, how much money you have, you and your crew's
enthusiasm for racing, the number of STSAC points collected from wins,
and your dragster's status. The dragster's status shows you its current
horsepower, rear-end gear ratio, tire width (in inches) and tire diameter
(in feet). It also shows you the cockpit type, of which there are six, the
most expensive being the most drag free.
After you've seen your status, you will be at the Acme Parts Supply - the
store where you buy different parts for your dragster. Here you can buy
a new engine (sorry, they require your old engine, no bore & stroking here.
After all, they are a parts store), new ring and pinion gears for your read-
end, new tires, and a different cockpit. You can also have them check for and
fix any sabotage that has occurred to your dragster. It has been discovered
that there are inscrutable people that work at the store, and for an unknown
amount of money, the will sabotage a competitors dragster. Press return
when you finish shopping to race.
After you've left the supply store, you will be presented with the current
scoreboard. On the left is the dragster number, followed by the current
place in the standings of the owner, the owner's name, his points and his
winnings. You select an opponent to race by typing in his dragsters number,
NOT his standings place number. Sometimes the computer challenges you to a
race, in which case, you don't get to type anything. The computer has cars
1 through 4. If #4 challenges you, you'll most likely win - it's a poor
dragster.
Now the race is on. You now see the elapsed time, your speed, your distance
from the "christmas tree", and your competitors speed and distance. Sometimes
you or your competitor will crash. This occurs when someone has been sabotaged.
They will still finish, but only by coasting to the finish line. Winning the
race gives the winner $10,000 and a percentage of the losers winnings, depending
on the distance from the finish to his dragster at the time of the finish. If
you race the computer's dragsters and win, you only get $5,000 instead of the
$10,000. Also, your enthusiasm will rise 10% to a maximum of 100%, and you
gain 100 STSAC points. If you lose, you relinquish a percentage of your
winnings, 50 STSAC points, and 7% of your enthusiasm. If your enthusiasm
drops to 0%, your crew abandons you, and you're forced to quit racing. If
you don't race for 10 consecutive days, you are also forced to quit racing.
You have two minutes at each input to respond, or the track manager throws you
out.
Good Luck!!!
